With Joomla! 1.5 about to ride off forever into the sunset, it is time to say goodbye to two dear old friends.
I first discovered the Joomla! project in 2006, and subsequently re-aligned my company, betweenbrain, to focus solely on providing Joomla! services in 2007. Joomla! has changed my life. It has allowed me to provide better solutions for my clients, make new friends and form strong bonds with other Joomla community members, grow as a developer, learn to better appreciate Open Source, as well as lead me to create the Construct Template Development Framework.
The first packaged release of Construct for Joomla! 1.5 was created January 25th, 2010. While Construct began years before as an internal tool to help streamline and improve the process of creating custom templates, it has grown to become much more than that to me. Construct has become a means of helping others. It is software that can help others create templates more rapidly. It is a tool that helps others learn about the template creation process. It has lead to many opportunities where I have been able to teach others about Joomla! and how to create templates for Joomla. In the end, it has become one of the ways I contribute to this community.
Underscoring the Buddhist philosophy of impermanence, and while embracing the future, the Joomla! 1.5 editions of Construct will reach end of life in April 2012. This includes Construct Community 1.5, Construct Pro 1.5, and Construct Unified.
Construct5 and Construct5 Pro, the new HTML5 editions of Construct, will also soon be revised to support Joomla! 2.5 only.
While it is hard to leave from where this journey began, the possibilities of what the future holds is exciting and very promising. This certainly includes mobile devices, responsive web design, HTML5 and CSS3. What else may come along is yet to be seen.
